It is important to ensure we have good access to your premises. Please ensure that you have spoken to your neighbours and where necessary, arranged to leave parking places clear. All walkways, pathways, stairs and passages should be clear of obstruction's to allow us free movement to your property.
If you have opted to do your own packing then either use boxes provided by us, or ensure that they are double walled and strong enough.
Industry standard removal boxes are very rarely sold online and delivered, so be careful and avoid the cheap so called ”home moving packs”.
Secure with good quality removal tape. Use two lengths of tape, the first through the middle and across the seam to hold the box together, the second along the seam to seal the box. Repeat on the top and never just fold the flaps over.
Mark with felt tip or marker pen on the top of the box or on the tape itself as to the room it is going to and also mark clearly if it contains fragile items. It is also a good idea to write a brief description of the contents to help you find the items you want.
Don’t make boxes too heavy, the average box should only weigh 20 kilogram per carton.
It is a good idea to have heavy items at the bottom and then fill with lighter or softer goods.
Ensure bottle lids are all tight and pack standing up.
Any knives or sharp items should be wrapped prior to packing to ensure they cannot protrude from the box and cause injury.
Only use Professional Removal Boxes
Remember the boxes are protecting all your possessions. Do not be tempted to use just any box!. Also be careful not to buy cheap, low quality boxes. Wiseguys Removals can offer to provide all the Packing Materials within your quotation if you require. Both our packing materials and packing service can offer new or used professional removal boxes.
Make Lists and Label your Boxes Make up a list to help you to record what’s in each box. Devise your own system but keep it simple and ensure that it will allow you to easily identify where everything is packed. You may want to consider writing the boxes contents and also what room it is from. For example Bed 1, Kitchen, Dining Room. This will allow our staff to place the Boxes in the appropriate room.
Don’t Overfill! Please ensure that you do not overfill your boxes and cartons, remember that they have to be lifted. The removal men are fully trained but they are not supermen. Also, boxes that are overfilled may break under the strain.
Don’t Under fill! This may seem stupid after the previous tip but partially filled boxes may collapse if heavy items are placed on top of them. Try to distribute your things evenly in the available boxes.
Beware of Fragile Items! When packing your valuable and fragile possessions please remember that newsprint will rub off and does not protect belongings very well. Use Bubble Wrap or Paper for Glass, Ornaments, China and all delicate items . Line the box with scrunched up paper or bubble wrap. The boxes holding these items should be clearly marked as “fragile”. Use small strips of paper around fragile ornaments and gaps.
Take Care with your Soft Furnishings Ensure that you don’t place heavy items with sharp corners on top of sofas and other upholstery. These can be damaged quite easily if you do this.
Pack Ahead Start packing two or three weeks in advance. Keep only essential items aside until the last day or two.
Small Items Boxes are preferred to bags for small items. Bags are easily torn and difficult to stack.
Don’t Pack Important Documents Remember to keep important documents aside. This will obviously include any documents related to the house sale and your removal.
